Laboratory rock testing services

Stress Measurement Company Oy (SMCOY) is based in Kaarina, Southwestern Finland, where our rock laboratory facilities are also found. We offer full stress measurement and laboratory testing services all over the world.

Our company has over 15 years experience of in situ stress measurements and geology, and over 25 years of experience in 3D rock mechanics modelling.

Our rock laboratory services include:

  • Uniaxial Compressive Strength testing of rock
  • Triaxial Compressive Strength testing of rock
  • Point Load index strength
  • Fracture toughness in Mode I and II
  • Subcritical crack growth properties
  • Joint compressive strength (JCS)
  • Direct shear testing of rock joints (in normal load or constant normal stiffness boundary conditions)
  • Direct shear testing of intact rock
  • Drillability of rock and CERCHAR Abrasivity Test (CAI) of rock
  • Crack Initiation (CI) and Crack Damage (CD) strength determination
  • Isotropic and anisotropic elastic properties (Poisson value and Young’s modulus)
  • Indirect rock strength testing using Brazilian disk method
  • Dry and Saturated density, Water content and Porosity
  • Mineralogical and petrographic composition and rock type name
  • Thermal expansion factor and thermophysical properties
  • Manufacturing of concrete replicas of rock joints for testing purposes
  • Dynamic and static deformation modulus also under compression (subcontracted through our well established contacts)
